| 23rd August 2008 | Growing Strawberries Organically Find out when to plant, when to fertilise and what to fertilise with, how to deal with any pests or diseases organically and what the best varieties are to grow. Beth and Beecher Larkin are certified organic growers who also grow based on biodynamic and permaculture principles too...in this day and age of chemical pest and disease control and artificial fertilisers...find out how they do it - naturally! This workshop will start at 10.45am and will be followed by Caboolture Seed Savers seed swapping time. |

And will be available to members. Don't forget to bring any items that you may want to swap, sell or giveaway, there will be a table setup for this. | 13th September 2008 | Threatened Australian Sun-Moths and Day-Flying Butterfly Look-Alikes Come and join the Richmond Birdwing Recovery Network for a Presentation by Ted Edwards (Entomologist & Honorary research fellow for CSIRO, Canberra) on the Threatened Australian Sun-Moths and Day-Flying Butterfly Look-Alikes. The workshop will be jointly hosted by the Richmond Birdwing Recovery Network and Moreton Bay Regional Council and will be held between the hours of 12.00 noon and 2.00pm at CREEC, 150 Rowley Road, Burpengary. The workshop is free and includes the presentation, lunch and refreshments. Numbers are limited so please be sure to book your place with Cheryl Regan or Julie Caught of Moreton Bay Regional Council on 5433 2294 by 9 September 2008 for catering purposes. |
| 21st September 2008 | Koala Survey Day On Sunday 21 September 2008 Moreton Bay Regional Council will be calling upon all members of voluntary conservation programs, members of the public and koala groups to undertake a koala survey on their own property and within their local area. | 11th October 2008 | The Endangered Richmond Birdwing Butterfly & Host Vine Workshop On Saturday 11 October 2008 Moreton Bay Regional Council in partnership with the Pumicestone Region Catchment Coordination Association (PRCCA) and the Richmond Birdwing Butterfly Recovery Network will be hosting the “Range to the Bay” workshop at CREEC, 150 Rowley Road, Burpengary between the hours of 9.00am and 2.30pm. The workshop will be focussed on the endangered Richmond Birdwing Butterfly Host Vine, endangered Richmond Birdwing Butterfly and will include a number of guest speakers on the above topics and other related topics. The workshop is free of charge and will include morning tea, refreshments and lunch. More details of the workshop will be provided in the next edition of Urban Wildlife News. Living with the Environment Workshops Living with the Environment Workshops were previously conducted by Pine Rivers Shire Council. These workshops have been a great success for both members of voluntary conservation programs and the public. Moreton Bay Regional Council has now extended this program to enable all residents of the Moreton Bay region to attend these fantastic workshops. A Living with the Environment activities brochure is included with this mail out which details the series of workshops on offer between August 2008 and January 2009. As a member of the Urban Wildlife Program you are able to attend these workshops free of charge. The workshops are very popular so please register your interest early. |
